Jon: Welcome to the Prodio Podcast. I'm producer Jon Gay, and I'm joined by Kellie and Chelsea from Prodio, a marketing and branding company. Great to be with both of you.
Chelsea: Oh, great to be here, Jon.
Kellie: Thanks for having us.
Jon: So obvious question to lead off with. Why start a podcast.
Chelsea: So we started the Prodio Podcast really focusing on frequently asked questions, or FAQs.
It's questions we get. There's questions that business owners get, and questions that business owners have around marketing. So we wanted to start a podcast to help navigate some of those questions and offer solutions that will add value to your business.
Jon: So I'm sure the frequently asked question that the two of you get the most is what is Prodio. And tell me the story behind the name.
Kellie: Yep. That's definitely one we hear a lot. And to that I say, Prodio is a marketing and branding company, particularly focused on helping businesses to develop and grow. We work with companies of all sizes in a wide variety of industries, whether it be a totally start from scratch new entity, or a company that's been in business for a while and looking to refine and level up.
We refer to it as being in growth mode, actually. In fact, our name, Prodio, is Latin for, to sprout up to go forward, or to grow. So we actually think it's pretty fitting to describe us.
Jon: I really like the story behind the name. That's pretty cool. So Chelsea, let me ask more specifically, what do you guys do?
Chelsea: Ooh, a lot, a lot. So short answer is we provide business and marketing strategy services. Along with marketing solutions from individual projects to, total full service packages where Prodio acts as the business' marketing team, or, a pretty good extension of that. But to break it down a little bit more, Prodio provides both strategy and marketing support through Kellie and myself as that strategic partner.
And project management component, while we also leverage our creative collective which provides a wide range of creative services. this includes anything from graphic design, photography, video production, to packaging design, web design, SEO, social media ads, and more. And our creative collective is pretty robust meaning varied skill levels, and expertise.
So we can really tailor solutions to your scope and budget. We like to think that we can kind of build your dream team, but that also with that project management and supporting business growth that can evolve over time. So lots of businesses struggle with those evolving marketing strategies.
You know, what worked yesterday to get ya to where you are may not be what your marketing strategy needs to be to grow your business or reach new audiences. So we help from strategy building to delivery of creative solutions and even implementation.
Jon: All right. I'm sure Kellie, a question that you get from businesses walking the door for the first time and talking to the two of you is cuz Chelsea just rattled off a whole list of services. Where do I start? Where do you start with a client?
Kellie: No, definitely. And, we just say, give us a buzz. But seriously, really what we say is start by getting help. Don't get stalled because you don't know where to start. Don't let your lack of confidence in your creative abilities keep you from diving in. Just because Canva exists doesn't mean you have to be a graphic designer.
Jon: That makes me feel a lot easier to hear you say that because I'm not good at graphics and I've played a little bit on Canva, so that's a relief to hear. Okay. Continue.
Kellie: Right? Yeah, there's a lot to affect and really, we find examining what is worth your time and energy and what is best to outsource and get off of your plate will really help you to prioritize those activities and increase overall productivity in your business.
What we see a lot of times is brands that have built identity or technical pieces and parts over time. So what results is sort of this mishmosh of stuff. And they're left trying to make everything work together and it's clunky and it appears detached, instead of how we like to do it, which is really approaching marketing holistically with your end goals in mind, and then building a really strong strategic plan to get you there.
Jon: Kellie, I really like the way you explained Prodio's holistic approach. Getting back to our main theme of FAQs today. Why is it important for a business to know the questions they most frequently get, to help with their marketing strategy?
Kellie: We're talking about taking those questions that you commonly hear about your business from, people on the street or your customers or whoever. Now, how can you utilize these FAQs to help educate about your business.
So what we're telling you is those FAQs that you're hearing all the time. Don't just continue to answer them, but utilize them in a way that they're hard working content for your business. We just told you three commonly asked questions that we get asked, why do you care? Because now put that into your own business.
What are those three commonly asked questions that you get answered? Now how can you use those questions to educate on your business? I'm telling you what is Prodio and now I'm using that answer to help build my mission statement. For example, it's not just FAQs. It's about how you utilize those FAQs to help inform.
Jon: What you just said makes a lot of sense, Kellie. So let's look at how we would put something like that into practice. For example, the first FAQ that you get at Prodio is what does the word Prodio mean? How would you leverage that question to your advantage?
Kellie: Yeah, absolutely. So take my answer. I said Prodio helps small businesses focus in on those right marketing activities to help them sprout and grow.
And I said, in fact, Prodio really means to grow in Latin. There's your first social media caption. It's a short snippet about who you are and a fun fact, right? About your brand name, you pair that with a coordinating image. Maybe it represents that sprout and grow message or maybe, Hey, you just lay it out, Webster Dictionary style as the image and boom. Your first post is concepted and done.
Jon: I like it.
Chelsea: Yeah. And then, moving to the second question of what do you do? I mean, that's always a loaded question. But when you break that down of like how you typically answer that with a customer, have that aid in developing your brand story, writing your mission statement, and really defining your positioning.
We all have a story. What we do, what that mission is, what value we hope to add. And this is a way that you can take that answer to that frequently asked questions and really build out a story, answering "what you do" helps to define your value and how you can carve out a reason for being there for your audience.
Jon: Have either of you seen the cult classic movie Office Space?
Kellie: My favorite.
Chelsea: Oh, 100%. Yeah.
Jon: Essentially you're answering the line, "What is it you say you do here." And now you're turning it into content. And so along those same lines, the third, most often question that we said you get is "Where do I start?" how does that turn into content for you as a business?
Kellie: Let's go back to the topic of social media for a minute, right? Starting that social engine and the ongoing maintenance it requires, it can be super daunting. We totally get that. But if you enlist the help, you build out a social strategy, it's gotta include a straightforward and easy to follow content calendar.
Then you've got all your main marketing messages woven in there. And then you got a monthly process for development and execution. When you have all that, you'll find that when you can leverage it correctly, social media can be such a hard working tool with really great ROI. But be careful cuz when you use it incorrectly, it can be such a major drain on time and resources and it can lead to a constant headache.
Jon: There are so many social media pitfalls. Kellie. I think about just going down the rabbit hole of the infinite scroll on one hand, or, you know, one social media post can destroy a brand and why social media is so hard, but can pay off so much, like you said, in terms of the ROI on it, for sure.
Kellie: Oh, absolutely. That's why we make such great partners at Prodio because we can deliver expert marketing support in the areas that you really need it most so that you can really stick to being the experts at what you do. We like to say, "You, plus Prodio. Together, we grow."
Jon: Well, Chelsea Kellie, it's been great to get to know both of you and a little bit about the backstory of pro and how you take your knowledge and put it into practice for your clients.
I know for me, as a solo entrepreneur, small business owner, the idea of marketing myself is daunting because I have 800,000 other things to do in a day.
